Former Marine and full time big brother, Bull Connor spends his days helping those in need of a second chance and his nights fighting the inner demons that won’t let go. During a routine tow he comes face to face with the only person who refuses to need him and the one man he wishes would.
As a throw away, Ian Jones is used to being alternately overlooked or ridiculed but hasn’t given up on the idea that with just one chance he could turn it all around. Rescued by the one person who neither overlooks nor ridicules him, he longs to be seen as more than just a man in need.
Ian isn’t pining for the family he’s never known but when they descend, unwanted and uninvited, Bull must prove that he’s the man who will protect Ian’s long neglected heart by sharing the demons that torment his wounded soul.
BOOK REVIEW
This is book two in the Sizzling Miami series and I have to say the author delivered another good story full of romance and suspense.
Ian is down on his luck, stuck on the freeway with a dead car on his way to a job interview. Bull is the man with the tow truck who comes to his rescue and is attracted to the Ian but Ian is so encased in his shell, Bull has a tough time drawing him out.
I have to say part of this story was hard to read, not in terms of the writing style but in terms of the characters.
Ian was such a damaged and lost soul whose past will make you want to cry. But he was also his own worst enemy sometimes. I understood his need to want to make it on his own. But no man is an island. We all need to connect with other people at some level and accept help when we're struggling.
Bull is such a great character because he has an amount of patience that I lack. It was great to see how he finally won Ian over and showed him a different life from the one Ian knew. It was also great to see Ian providing some help to Bull too. These two were so well matched.
As we know, sometimes the past refuses to stay there and Ian's past does come calling. I can't say I was altogether happy how Ian deals with this. But hey, it's fiction.
On the whole this is a great story about finding love and hidden strength when you need it most. If you haven't read this book, you should.
