Welcome back to Mid-Week Tease where we tease you with excerpts from our published books or works-in-progess, organised by the lovely Sandra Bunino.

The Amazon reviewer wrote: "it packs a far more powerful punch than Sicario. Its sexier, deadlier, darker and more dangerous for both Carlos and Dante." 

Although how she classified 234 pages as a short read, had me amused. She must have enjoyed it so much the pages flew by. 

So today I bring you a teaser from one of the deadlier scenes. In this scene Dante, faces off with Lexan from Sicario, Part One.Il Duce Vs Il Sicario. Who's going to win this showdown? Read on and find out. *grins*

Someone had entered the café via the back. It had been an ambush, after all. I stood immediately, pulling my gun out and pointing it at Enzo’s head.

“Stand up. Keep your hands on your head. No sudden movement,” I said, keeping my voice low and urgent.

“What’s going on?” he asked although he obeyed.

I walked behind him and pulled a zip wire from my pocket. “I should be asking you. Slowly lower your hands to the back and keep them together.”

He complied and I tied his wrists together, making sure it was tight.

“Why are you doing this?” he asked, sounding worried and his eyebrows drew together.

I pressed the dial button to call Marshall but didn’t lift the phone. “Your owner is here.”

Enzo gasped, his head jerking back, just as a man walked into the main room of the café.

“Yes, I am,” the new man spoke, his voice low. He wore a navy silk suit, white shirt, and grey tie that seemed to match his eye colour. His eyes were sharp and cold and hard as steel. In his gloved right hand was a black gun with a silencer nozzle.

I’d always thought I’d know the day the angelus mortis would visit me. The eyes that stared at me were those of a killer. My killer. I recognised him, mainly from the mask covering one side of his face. Lexan Cesare. Il Sicario for cartel boss Federico Mancini. I’d never met him before but his reputation preceded him. Everyone who’d ever been on his hit list had met their demise one way or the other. So things weren’t looking good for me, considering I’d made it onto his list.

My heart felt like it would explode out of my chest and sweat beaded on my upper lip. I stood with my back to the wall with Enzo providing a human barrier. But the newcomer stood closer to the exit, blocking my escape route. Although there were still positives—Marshall and Ricco were still out there.

“Lex...” Enzo licked his lips. “What are you doing here?”

“I came to kill two birds with one stone.” Lexan’s gaze went to Enzo although he didn’t move from the spot.
