This snippet comes from Sicario, book 2 in my World's End series. The POV is Lexan's and the scene is self-explanatory. Something bad is coming.

We both shifted up into the bed fully clothed. As I placed my head on the pillow, Enzo switched off the light, rolled over and put his arm over me. Sighing, I relaxed a little as I felt him close. The need for him still shimmered in my body, but the need for survival superseded the need for sex.

Neither of us spoke and neither of us slept for an hour.

“You can sleep,” I said. “I’ll take the first watch and wake you in two hours.”

“I’m not sure I can sleep,” he said.

“Try. You need the rest.” I turned around to face him. “I’ll keep you safe.”

"There's something I wanted to ask you," Tito lowered his voice as if he didn't want to be overheard, his elbows leaning on the heavy dark wood desk separating us.

Knowing my brother, he did it more for dramatic effect than anything else. We sat in my office, which had been recently swept for transmitting devices. No one was listening.

Unless Tito had a bug on him.

Shoving the ridiculous thought aside, I leaned into my leather chair. "What is it?"

"It's about Dante and that Carmichael boy. A little bird told me they're lovers."

The devil was on my tail.

I hurried across the busy lobby of Casinò Maximo in Angel City, determined not to glance around. The buzz of music, conversations and coins slotting into machines were temptations that had nearly consumed me when I'd first arrived in the city years ago. Never again.

Pressing the lift call button, I stood back, tilted my head up and watched the blue digital numbers above the metals doors, trying to decipher which of the four elevators would arrive first. One to my right pinged and I stepped in when the door slid open. I pressed my palm on the reader before punching the special code that would give me access to the top floor of the building.
